The Humanities Council recently awarded grants for 21 projects totaling $201,767 through our Cultural Heritage Development Fund.  Projects receiving grants include cell phone audio tours, an exhibition on Litchfield County antique furniture and two town birthday celebrations:  Ridgefield's 300th and Wethersfield's 375th.  The grants were made possible by support from the Connecticut State Legislature.

The next deadline is March 1 for grant applications of $5,000 or less and May 1 for applications over $5,000.  If you'd like to discuss a project idea, please contact Laurie Rayner, (860) 685-3423.

54 Council Book Discussion Programs to Choose from this Spring

We're pleased to announce the spring lineup of the CHC's book discussion programs for children, families and adults.  These explorations of great literature are scheduled at 54 local libraries in communities throughout the state.

* Children are invited to join in a Book Voyagers program to share their ideas about great books at a local library under the guidance of a professional discussion leader.  There are programs for all ages and some invite parents to join in, too.  See the schedule>>

* Our Literature for a Lifetime book discussion program for adult readers will be hosted at libraries in 29 towns this spring.  Program topics range from the works of Willa Cather and American Poets to delicious books on food to American politics. Copies of books from the Humanities Council's lending library are available from hosting libraries and all discussions are facilitated by a library staff member or humanities scholar.  See the schedule>>

Humanities Council Set to Move to New Headquarters

After a year-long search followed by a 5-month renovation, our new headquarters are almost ready!  We'll be consolidating our current offices in Middletown and Hamden into a 7,200 square foot building near downtown Middletown sometime next month.  Our staff is growing (we've added 4 new staff members and more are in the works) so we're looking forward to having a lot more space, as well as a new conference room, phone system and computer network.  If you're familiar with the Middletown area, we'll be located next to the Wesleyan University book store in the old Colormart building.  Take a look at the renovation pictures>>
